Can a fracture be fun and stylish? (Tushar Gupta)

Sanguine International CEO, Tushar Gupta, schooled at St. Xavier’s High School, Loyola Hall and L D Engineering College is introducing a revolutionary technology designed to dramatically change the clinical practices for treatment of fractures by orthopaedic surgeons.

Tushar Gupta

In the picture, Tushar Gupta shows a sample of a forearm fracture brace.  The device is US FDA approved and new on the international market.  The top layer is a modern attractive fabric, the middle layer is a patented thermoformable plastic followed by layer of foam soft to the skin with sweat dispersion.  The device is anti-microbial to prevent bacterial growth, is radio-translucent to avoid removing during x-rays, does not need a saw for removal, lighter than fibre glass and allows the skin to breathe to prevent skin irritation.  The product can be used multiple times.

A portfolio of products is under development for other joints of the body.  Tushar plans to eventually manufacture at Ahmedabad to ease distribution, reduce cost and supply in large quantities.  A Nov 7 visit to IIM-A Entrepreneurship fair has led to talks about starting a student project to explore the possibilities of product marketing.

Tushar has worked extensively in the USA medical device industry and also has a MBA from Carlson School of Management.  He resides in Minneapolis which has the 2nd largest medical device industry in USA.  Considering that Minnesota has couple hundred small medical device companies, the pipeline for introducing high quality, FDA approved, innovative medical technologies is an ambitious but achievable goal.  Minnesota boasts big names like Medtronic, 3M, St. Jude Medical, Boston Scientific, etc and also the famous Mayo Clinic (equivalent to India’s AIIMS) at Rochester, Minnesota.  The target supply companies have excellent products but with only few employees who cannot handle the logistics of the Indian medical industry.  In Minnesota, the companies are very happy to start business with Tushar since he is resides locally and is very well connected to the India’s healthcare market.  Tushar’s dad, Dr. O P Gupta retired as the Director of Medical Education and Health Services for the state of Gujarat.

Having grown up in Gujarat, he has always kept the entrepreneurial spirit alive.  During his current 5-week business trip, he has met the top Orthorpaedic surgeons, hospital equipment distributors, and business people.  He has established relationships to start selling product by end of November.
